(About Us)

Dept. of Agricultural Biotechnology

Agricultural biotechnology, which includes advanced technologies, is a department that brings together agricultural sciences and biotechnology. Gene engineering, cell and tissue culture technologies are brought together at the department of agricultural biotechnology. Agricultural biotechnology plays a critical role in the development of advanced biomaterials, genetic engineering, plant breeding, animal breeding, enzyme production, conservation of food resources, utilization of flora and fauna as biological resources, treatment of plant and animal diseases and environmental protection. The department contributes to the production of food needed by people, the solution of environmental problems and the treatment of plant and animal diseases by conducting research on biological resources, animals, plants and microorganisms. Agricultural Biotechnology comprises the following fields: plant and animal biotechnology containing advanced technology, food biotechnology, biochemistry, plant and animal microbiology, entomology and bio-modulation.

The department, which was established in 2010, continues education with 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors and 2 Research Assistants. Undergraduate program has been active since 2012, Master’s Degree education since 2013 and PhD program since 2018.

The Department of Agricultural Biotechnology consists of three main divisions: Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology. The main goal of the department is to train agricultural engineers who have knowledge about biotechnology and its methods, who can approach plant and animal production with a new and applied perspective, and who have adopted multidisciplinary working principles. The department works with different departments and scientists in the Faculty of Agriculture on undergraduate education and scientific research. Undergraduate education is 8 semesters (4 years). The student has to complete 240 ECTS and 30 days of internship training. This education provides the student with a bachelor's degree and the title of Agricultural Engineer.
